Answers to the most common questions about Connect.
How do I create an account?
+Click "Create profile" on the homepage and follow the 3-step registration. You'll need to verify your email address before your account is activated.
Is Connect only for South Africans?
+Connect is built for the South African Muslim community but is open to Muslims from anywhere. All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR).
How do I complete my profile?
+Go to Dashboard → My Profile. A completion bar shows how complete your profile is. Completing more fields improves your match accuracy and visibility.
Can I use Connect for free?
+Yes — the Standard plan is free and lets you browse up to 20 profiles. To send messages and access full features, you'll need to upgrade to Premium.
How does matching work?
+Connect calculates compatibility scores across up to 9 dimensions including religious level, interests, family values, location, education and lifestyle. Premium members see all 9 dimensions.
Can I control what dimensions are used for matching?
+Yes — go to Dashboard → Browse → Match preferences to toggle which dimensions matter to you.
Why do some profiles appear blurred?
+Some members choose to blur their photo for Standard (free) members. Premium members always see photos clearly. You can enable this for your own photo in Profile → Photo settings.
How do I send a first message?
+Browse to a profile and click "Send introduction". You'll answer 3 structured questions before your message is sent. This ensures thoughtful, respectful first contact.
Why can't I reply to messages?
+Messaging requires a Premium subscription. Standard members can receive introductions but cannot reply. Upgrade from Dashboard → Upgrade.
Can I share my phone number in messages?
+No — Connect automatically filters messages containing phone numbers, email addresses and social media handles. This protects all members and keeps communication on the platform.
What is a meeting request?
+Once a conversation is progressing well, Premium members can send a formal meeting request (in-person, video or phone call). The other person can accept or decline with a reason.
What is a wali?
+A wali is an Islamic guardian — typically a father, brother or male relative — who oversees the marriage process. Connect's wali system lets you link a wali to your account so they can monitor your activity.
How do I invite my wali?
+Go to Dashboard → Wali settings and enter your wali's email address. They'll receive an invitation to create a wali account and link to yours.
What can my wali see?
+You control exactly what your wali can access — messages, contact requests, matches and the ability to block users. Adjust permissions in Dashboard → Wali settings.
Does my wali need to pay?
+The Family plan covers both a seeker and their wali under one subscription at R249/month. Alternatively walis can have a free account.
What is the verified badge?
+Premium+ members can upload a South African ID or passport to get a verified badge on their profile. This shows other members that your identity has been confirmed by the Connect team.
How long does verification take?
+We aim to review verification submissions within 1–2 business days.
Is my ID document safe?
+Yes — ID documents are stored in a private, encrypted storage bucket and are only accessible to the Connect admin team. They are never shown to other members.
How do I cancel my subscription?
+Go to Dashboard → Settings → Subscription and click "Cancel subscription". Your Premium access continues until the end of the current billing period.
How do I delete my account?
+Go to Dashboard → Settings → Account and click "Delete account". This permanently removes your profile and all data within 30 days.
What payment methods are accepted?
+Connect uses PayFast which accepts credit/debit cards, EFT, instant EFT and SnapScan. All payments are processed in ZAR.
